I LOVE HONG KONG – PART 2

December 22, 2009

Yeaaa.. I know I’ve been lazy in updating this blog. Didn’t have much time and/or power to work my fingers and update. So, here’s Part 2 of my travel photos to Hong Kong, if you check back a few posts earlier, Part 1 is here. Let’s move on the photos, shall we?

Rise and shine! This was what greeted me after we’ve had our breakfast. No photos of breakfast though, sorry. After breakfast, we’re on our way to Hong Kong island – to The Peak specifically. To do that, we’ll have to cross over to the other side since we’re in Kowloon, so we decided to take the Ferry.

Alan Tam and Hacken Lee billboard on a bus. Muscle-men, eh?

I thought the glass shapes on one of the hotels was very interesting, so just took a quick shot while walking.

Boarding the Star Ferry… it’s going to be a short ride.

View from onboard the ferry… lovely right?

Yours truly, eh hemmm…

There it is… the world famous Star Ferry, a short but memorable ride. And so onward we go to board a bus that’ll take us to the tram station up The Peak.

This is the senget view from inside the tram on the way up.

And this is the actual view from the top. Which one’s nicer eh?

After more photo taking sessions, our stomachs started growling… and so began our quest for food. Finally settled on Mc’D because they had pork burger, which I haven’t tried before. Hehehe…

Stomachs filled, we walk around the small shopping complex at The Peak. Saw this interesting tin of cookies at Famous Amos, was tempted to get a tin, but finally decided against it.

We then headed to Madame Tussauds wax museum. Here, my little king posing with Clinton standing by his side. LOL!

So, by the time we went back down.. it was already evening time. Here’s a shot of the LV boutique with GA flanking it beside. Make sure your credit card can tahan though. :P

After all that, we headed back to Mongkok for more jalan-jalan, and stumbled a shop that sells all sorts of mango desserts. Yummy! Just had to try these…

Smelly tofu anyone? Our legs were beat and we headed back to the hotel for a good night’s rest before continuing our journey for tomorrow.

Rise and shine! It’s the following morning, and this – fried rice, is what we had for breakfast. It actually tasted better than it looks, recommended.

Onward to Avenue of Stars! It’s a good thing that our hotel provides free shuttle every 30 mins or so to Tsim Sha Tsui, as that’s where the Avenue of Stars is located.

Yes, I’m telling you this. You suck as a director.

Moving on to Hong Kong station, more shopping/window shopping ensued.

Causeway Bay. HUMAN.TRAFFIC.JAM.

Nice lines?

Do not cross? Do not walk? No human parking here? And according to me, HK has the best egg tarts in the world. I WOULD go there again just for the egg tarts. They are THAT good.

Then it was more shopping and generally walking around. Apple Shop that sells clothes and MTR station. Nice colours.

We have a 1pm flight to catch the next day so it’s time to head back to the hotel for packing up. Had a quick breakfast at one of the char chan teng (coffeehouse) just beside our hotel before heading to the airport.

Annndddd that’s all folks! It’s been a wonderful couple of days in HK, with the cooling weather and the sights and the food and the shopping. Till the next time.

I LOVE HONG KONG

September 18, 2009

Oooo yes yes. I Love Hong Kong. Why do I say so? I think mainly it’s because of the weather; I went there for a 5 days 4 nights vacation in January this year, and the temperature was hovering around 10 – 16 degrees Celsius. Such a refreshing change from the hot and humid weather we experience all year long in Malaysia! But, there’s always a but – this place is packed with PEOPLE. Every little nook and corner from early 9am till 11pm is full of people. Hong Kong being Hong Kong, even the touristy places are also packed with visitors, yours truly included. Hahah!

Secondly, they have piping hot egg tarts that are to die for! Why can’t they make it as good over here? Hmmm…

Alright then, so what’s interesting? I shall let the photos speak for themselves (with a little captioning help la).

Let’s start with the obligatory shot of looking out the plane window. We were on Cathay Pacific, quite ok for the price. On-board food was so-so compared with other airlines. The flight from Penang to HK took us about 3 hours 50 mins.

On arrival at Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok airport. I think we spent about 40 mins queuing up just to pass the immigration counters. They’re full of Mainland Chinese people getting into HK.

Upon reaching the hotel, we wasted no time in going out and see what’s HK about. First destination – Tsim Sha Tsui and this cute bus.

If you guys watched the movie Ip Man, you would have known about Wing Chun. Here, you can see the Wing Chun HQ and their little signboard, sadly the building is pretty run down.

It was getting dark and we’re getting hungry, so found some cafe to fill our stomachs. This is crispy pork bun – absolutely fantastic. The aroma, the flavour, the taste.. yummmmm. Wish they have this in Penang.

After getting our stomachs filled, we walked over to Avenue of Stars overlooking Hong Kong island. This was taken during the nightly laser show at 8pm. Nice right?

The next morning, we started by having dim sum. Their Siew Mai is quite good.

Right, straight onwards to Lantau Island to see the Giant Buddha statue. My wife carrying the little man while he’s still fast asleep.

On the way to the island, by way of cable car. The ride lasted about 30 minutes (I think) and the view together with the cool weather, made it very enjoyable.

After some 20 minutes or so, I can see the statue from here.

Before reaching the island, my little man woke up from his slumber. He was in high spirits though… probably because he’s gotten his batteries fully charged!

Upon reaching the island, we discovered that there is still some considerable walking distance before we could even reach the statue! So, you gotta do what you gotta do. Take photos la!

Kung Fu Ryan?

So here’s a family photo taken with the exception of my brother who was behind the camera while we’re on the way up the steps (hundreds of them I think). My legs weaken. Shows a serious lack of exercise. Hehehe.

Ahhh.. finally reached the top. Absolutely magnificent sight. Just look at that.

We spent quite some time on top there, and did a little bit of shopping after that. Here’s a view from their MTR on the way back to Mongkok.

After shopping (no photos, unfortunately), we headed back to our hotel by way of MTR. I think this shot was taken in Central… can’t really remember though.

And that wraps up Day 1 and 2. More photos to come in the next post, stay tuned for Part 2!

South Korea – 2005

August 13, 2009

This trip to South Korea backdates to 2005 (I know, it’s been a long time). But I thought there were some nice photos to be shared so I’m putting it up here.

We took a 5 days tour to South Korea during the end of October 2005, and it was my first experience being in the cold weather! Mind you, the weather in Malaysia get pretty hot with constant temperature hovering in the region of 30 Celsius, so it was quite an awakening when we’re faced with temperatures of 10 – 15 Celsius in some days of our tour.

Alright, let’s get busy with the photos!
